In comparison to the Central Teachers’ Eligibility Test (CTET), the results of the Odisha Teachers’ Eligibility Test (OTET) were found encouraging. The OTET results were made public yesterday.
While only eight per cent Certificate Teacher (CT) students were found eligible to become teachers in primary schools, little over 10 per cent B.Ed students of the State have shown that they have it in them to become teachers in high schools.
This was much better than the CTET results in which less than one per cent of students were found eligible to become school teachers, official sources said today.
Under the Sarva Sikhsya Abhijan and in accordance with the norms of the National Council for Teachers’ Education, the OTET was conducted in the State for the first time and after some initial hiccups, the test was conducted by the State Board of Secondary Education (BSE) here last month.
Sources said 86,926 CT candidates took the test of which only 6,765 (7.7 per cent) were found eligible to become teachers in primary schools. Similarly, of 43,738 B.Ed students who appeared for the OTET, 4,446 (10.16 per cent) were found eligible to become teachers in high schools.
They said results of at least 39 CT and 17 B.Ed students were withheld for several reasons, which would be published after verification.
