A total of 1,66,978 candidates have registered for VIT’s engineering entrance examination to be held from April 15 to 24 for admission into the B.Tech programme offered by VIT University, Vellore.

For the first time, the computer-based test will be organised in 112 cities at 130 centres in both India and overseas (Dubai and Kuwait), says a press release issued by the university.

According to VIT founder and chancellor, G. Viswanathan, the demand for the programme from students based in West Asia has led VIT University to branch out. Among the prominent centres in India, Andhra Pradesh tops the chart with 33,170 registrations, of which23,867 is from male candidates. Second is Uttar Pradesh (25,692 registrations), followed by Bihar (18,810), Rajasthan (11,845) and Tamil Nadu (10,480).

While Delhi has registered 11,728 candidates (who will give the entrance examination in its four centres), Chennai has registered 4,804 and Vellore 2,097.
