Sandvik sponsors Chair at Indian School of Mines

Sandvik Asia, the Indian subsidiary of Sandvik Asia, is sponsoring a Chair Professor at the Indian School of Mines (ISM) at Dhanbad in Jharkhand.

N. C. Jha, former Chairman of Coal India Ltd, has become the first Sandvik Chair Professor at ISM.

According to Soumitra Banerjee, President of Sandvik Asia’s mining division, the Chair was formally instituted at the ISM on Friday.

Apart from routine academic tasks, the role of the Chair Professor would involve industry-institute interaction and R&D activities, Sanjay Basu, corporate advisor and R&D Coordinator of Sandvik, explained.

The tenure of the Chair is for two years, extendable to a five-year period or 70 years of age, whichever is earlier.
