Six software companies, including Tata Consultancy Services, Cognizant, Infosys and Take Solutions, have given their letters of consent to be part of setting up Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) in Tamil Nadu.
The first institute in Tamil Nadu will come up in Sethurapatty in Tiruchi, which falls in the Srirangam constituency represented by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, according to Dr T. S. Sridhar, Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education, Tamil Nadu.
“We need three or four more companies,” he said at the Annual Day Event - ICTACT Convergence 2012 - of ICT Academy of Tamil Nadu. Land has already been identified at Sethurapatty, he said.
As per the Union Ministry of HRD, nearly 20 IIITs are being planned across the country under the PPP model.
The total outlay is Rs 128 crore. Of this, the Centre will contribute 50 per cent; 35 per cent from State governments and the balance 15 per cent from the private sector.
