Hoping to provide an impetus to science and math education in State-run schools, Agastya International Foundation and Honeywell India have joined hands to set up the Honeywell Science Experience.
The initiative proposes to support 11 science centres, 10 mobile science labs, and 1,100 young instructor leaders, reaching 48,000 children and 200 teachers across Bengaluru, Gurugram and Delhi, between 2016 and 2019.
A charitable education trust formed in 1999, Agastya claims runs one of the world’s largest mobile hands-on science education programmes for disadvantaged teachers and children. The organisation claims to have already impacted more than 8 million children and 2 lakh teachers across 18 States with its programmes.
‘Inspiring innovators’Launching the Honeywell Science Experience late last week, Mehul Patel, Country Leader, Honeywell Technology Solutions, India, said, “As a global technology leader and a top recruiter of technology talent with more than 8,000 engineers in India, Honeywell understands the importance of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education. We are excited to work with Agastya to inspire the next generation of innovators and scientists in the country.”
While Agastya International Foundation brings a sturdy background in introducing hands-on experiential learning to the mix, Ramji Raghavan, Founder and Chairman, Agastya said about the partnership, “Support from partners like Honeywell helps us create the right infrastructure, and get practical technology inputs to make such a program sustainable and effective.”
Scale is priority“At Agastya, we always think about how we can scale. What’s beautiful about the partnership with Honeywell India is that they appreciate the importance of scaling, and scaling with quality. That sits well with us,” Raghavan explains.
Honeywell India’s Patel adds, “This is not a short-term engagement. We find our own goals and mission can be achieved through a partner like Agastya. The organisation is run like we would ourselves run.”
