It is now time for school principals to go back for training. Starting April 1, Principals, Vice-Principals, Head Masters and Head Mistresses of over 13,500 schools following the curriculum prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) would spend at least one week training in leadership and school management.
Under the initiative taken by CBSE, heads of schools would be required to mandatorily attend a five-day behavioural programme, which would be offered in both the residential and non-residential formats.
Santhosh Babu, founding Managing Director, Organisation Development Alternatives, said, this initiative would empower Principals to act as Chief Executives of their respective schools and strengthen their leadership capabilities.
Organisation Development Alternatives has been assigned to offer this programme, which has been divided into two parts — behavioural learning on leadership that would include leadership styles, goal-setting, collaboration and team-building, vision-building, time management and conflict resolution.
According to a release issued by Organisation Development Alternatives, the technical learning aspect would bring school heads up to speed on many reforms and policies of the CBSE and the Government, such as the Right to Education and Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation (CCE), and on using technology for both school administration and enhancing learning and financial management.
