A team of 13 biotechnology students of the Chennai-based Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE) has won the silver medal in the International Genetic Engineering Competition (iGEM) 2016, held at Boston, USA, an event in which 300 teams from all over the world, including six from India, took part.
The SVCE team won the medal for its project on prevention of milk spoilage in places where no refrigeration is possible, says a press release from the college. If the work of the team is made into a marketable product, there is a huge potential for selling it in India, says Dr Nalinkanth V Ghone, Instructor of the team and professor of biotechnology, SVCE.
