Higher the emotional quotient, greater the chances of success, said Prof. Karunesh Saxena, Dean, M.L. Sukahdia University, Udaipur. Saxena was delivering a lecture on ‘Emotional Quotient for Professional Competence’ at Department of Geology, J.N. Vyas University, Jodhpur. The campus interface was organised by Business Line in association with Cairn India — the fastest growing energy company in the world.

Saxena stressed that emotional quotient (EQ) should be greater than intelligence quotient (IQ) to succeed. Higher IQ can get you a better job but not great success. Saxena said that EQ starts at foetal stage by giving the example of how Abhimanyu leant to break doors in Mahabharata’s Kurukshetra war.

He also mentioned how Daniel Goleman in year 1989 popularised EQ. Future managers should throw out their negative emotions such as anger, jealous, hatred for harmony. They should not suppress their thoughts but rechannelise in a positive way.

Saxena quoted that how Mahatma Gandhi, Bill Gates, Write Brothers changed the world by high EQ. If you want to reach the pinnacle of success, always think of 80 per cent EQ and 20 per cent IQ. This combination will give you wings to reach where you want.
