Dr Srikumar Banerjee appointed as CUK Chancellor

Internationally-acclaimed scientist Dr Srikumar Banerjee has appointed as the first Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), by President Pranab Mukherjee.

“According to a communique received by the CUK Vice-Chancellor from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Dr Srikumar Banerjee has been appointed as the head of the varsity for a period of five years,” a spokesman of the University said today.

Srikumar Banerjee, a Padma Shri recipient, has worked in several prestigious institutions, including the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Trombay, where he was the Director.

The metallurgical engineer retired as the Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission of India (AECI) and the Secretary of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

He is one of the leading experts in Material Science and Technology in India and has made outstanding contributions to many related areas, basic as well as application oriented.

In the course of his career, Srikumar Banerjee has published more than 300 scientific papers in reputed international and national journals.
