The e-filing of income tax returns has taken off in a big way this year. Till August 5, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had received 123.03 lakh e-filed returns.
This is 68.3 per cent higher than 73.11 lakh returns e-filed in the corresponding period last year.
Up to August 5, 87,13,493 returns were e-filed under ITR 1 and ITR 2, the return forms for assesses with salary income. This is 85.8 per cent higher than the 46,90,279 returns e-filed under ITR 1 and ITR 2 in the corresponding period last fiscal.
