Firebird Institute of Research in Management is not another B-School, but one that envisions creating the right kind of human resources for contemporary business and industry.
Established by the Dr SVK Educational Charities, the institute is located near Golf Club Road in Chettipalayam. According to its Managing Trustee S. K. Sundararaman, the institute “would focus on empowering in-service executives through short-duration leadership development programmes and creating young graduates who can take on the highly competitive business world with ease.”
“The need for executive development programmes is immense in the western region of Tamil Nadu, which is an entrepreneurial belt. We recognised the need for a training institute that would solely focus on such programmes as we were ourselves deputing people all over the world for training in such programmes,” said the Past President of CII, Coimbatore, and Managing Director of Shiva Tex Yarn, justifying the need for such a facility.
“At Firebird, we design and conduct such programmes to address the training needs of company executives at all levels. LEAP (Leadership Exploration and Awakening Programme), our flagship programme, has been designed after intense research; it has proved to be a hit among the participants. More than 2,500 individuals had registered and completed the programme in the last one year. We have been conducting about 10 programmes every month,” Sundararaman continued.
He said practical and research oriented management education is needed to help graduates develop an analytical mindset and professional decision making skills and Firebird would impart training in this niche area of management education.
The institute is collaborating with government and non-governmental organisations to provide value-based programmes to its students. “The duration of most of the programmes would range between two days to a week,” he said, adding “each of the research assignments would vary according to the issues given by client companies.”
When asked if FireBird institute would offer an MBA programme, he said “we plan to commence the programme from July 2017, but this would focus on the practical side of management, industrial internship and a 360-degree approach.”
The institute is spread over an area of 10 acres, with a built-up area of more than 70,000 sq ft.
