The Centre is mulling over setting up a Regional Institute of Paramedical Sciences in the Bhopal based All India Institute Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
An official team of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare visited the AIIMS Campus in the city yesterday in this regard and held discussion with its director Dr Sandeep Kumar on various issues including the site of the Institute, available land for hostel and future needs.
“We have shown the site and existing facilities to the central team that visited our campus on the issue of setting up Regional Institute of Paramedical Sciences and hope that the panel would make a decision in our favour,” Kumar said today.
The Ministry has decided to open seven paramedical institutes in the country out of which one will be set up in the North-East, he said, adding that the proposed institute would also conduct super speciality paramedical courses.
The final decision on setting up the centre at Bhopal will be taken by the Ministry, depending upon the recommendation made by the visiting team, he said.
The Bhopal AIIMS has a provision to conduct MBBS, Post Graduate, dental and nursing courses and efforts are being made to start PG course in Community and Family Medicine from the next session.
