GTU starts 12-week course in Glass Processing

Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has joined hands with the Glass Academy to impart glass processing and technology training to the engineering students of the university.

With this, GTU has become India's first and the only University to commence the program in Glass Processing Technology at its Gandhinagar campus, a statement informed here.

The GTU - School of Glass Processing Technology will focus on developing the need-based skilled manpower in the emerging sector like glass façade, fenestration and glass processing industry. The training will be provided to the Diploma or Degree students of Civil & Mechanical Engineering programmes at the GTU premises.

On March 14, 2015, an orientation program was conducted, the training programme will run for 12 weeks initially.

"Green building must minimize the demand of non-renewable resources and maximize the reuse, recycling and utilization of renewable resources. In India today most of the buildings extensively use Glazing in form of Facade Glazing or in the form of large windows," the statement said. "The installation and Glass processing have emerged as one of the important areas of employment in Gujarat. Gujarat is facing acute shortage of Skill required for glass façade fabrication and installation Technology," it added.
