Digital education should be encouraged and must be taught to students in a fun-filled atmosphere and this can be done by taking boredom and drudgery out of conventional teaching methods, according to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
He was interacting with the media here on Thursday afternoon after participating in the inaugural of the three-day TECH 2018 (Transforming Education Conference for Humanity) jointly organised by the UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development and the Andhra Pradesh Government.
He said technology should be leveraged to make teaching and learning lively, vibrant and to foster creativity. Andhra Pradesh in particular was encouraging digital education, by having a large number of virtual class rooms and digital class rooms in the State.
Naidu said the AP Government was willing to provide 50 acres of land to the UNESCO MGIEP to set up a I-hub—with a school of excellence, gaming centres and other requsites—to promote digital education. “In the next Cabinet meeting, we will take a decision and provide the land and I am sure it will give a great boost to educational sector in the State,” he said.
Anantha Duraiappah, the Director of the MGIEP, thanked the Chief Minister for his co-operation and said the potential of digital technologies should be fully exploited to provide inclusive, equitable and quality education for all.
He said last year also TECH 2017 was held in Visakhapatnam and it had become an annual affair for the city. The Vizag declaration, which will be released at the end of the 3-day conference, would deal with guidelines and standards for digital education.
