International salaries at India’s top business school, IIM Ahmedabad, have dropped considerably this year. The maximum earning potential (MEP) for the international offers has dropped by almost 43 per cent at the B-school this year, compared with 2014.

Last year the international MEP for IIM-A was $1,92,581; this year, however, it stood at $1,10,284 — a big drop, according to IIM-A’s final placements report released as per the Indian Placement Reporting Standards (IPRS). The report is audited by CRISIL, an independent third-party auditor.

Maximum Earning Potential
The MEP is measured as a sum of the total guaranteed cash component, maximum linked variable pay and all other salary components that are part of the offer.

The overall drop in international salaries could well be linked to the decline in international offers at the institute. Last year, 19 students had received international offers from Africa, Europe and Asia. Just 10 offers trickled in from the US, Asia Pacific, Europe, West Asia and Africa.

Domestic salaries, however, are looking up. The median domestic salary for the institute this year was ₹19.7 lakh. In 2014, it stood at ₹18 lakh. Maximum Earning Potential for domestic offers (or highest domestic package) was ₹53 lakh; last year it was ₹41 lakh. More than 115 firms were present on the campus to hire a batch of 376 students in 2015.

Top recruiters Accenture Strategy emerged as top recruiter at IIM-A, making 21 offers. Amazon made 13 offers; and McKinsey & Co, BCG and Samsung made 10 offers each. Bain & Co also made nine offers in the consulting strategy domain. Among banking and financial services firms, Yes Bank recruited 10 students, while Goldman Sachs made five offers.

In the general management sector, Bharti Airtel was the top recruiter with nine offers. Aditya Birla Group, and Future Group made eight offers each.

About 11 students opted out of placements this year at IIM-A to start up their own ventures. These students have been awarded a placement holiday from the business school, wherein they will be able to participate in one of the next two placement sessions in case their ventures don’t work out.
