IIM-Tiruchirappalli (IIM-T), the 11th Indian Institute of Management in the country, will set up its campus near here and would pump in Rs 300 crore for the first phase, a top official said today.

The campus would come up at Navalpattu on a 68.94 hectare site, allotted by the Tamil Nadu government, IIM-T Director Prafulla Agnihotri said.

“The board has given the green signal. IIM-T will set up its own campus...will invest Rs 300 crore in Phase-I for a World Class Campus,” he told PTI here.

He said construction would commence by April or May, 2013 and completed in 18-24 months. IIM-T, set up last year, currently functions from NIT Tiruchirappalli.

The institute was scouting for a project management consultant and has shortlisted four architect groups out of which one would be chosen at the board meeting to be held in Chennai on November 21, Agnihotri said.

In the first phase, the campus would include an academic building comprising of classrooms, conference halls, offices for faculties, non-teaching staff, a boardroom and a library.

It will also have an IT centre and a management development programme campus meant for short and long term programmes for working executives, he added.

Separate hostels for men and women accommodating about 400 students, staff quarters and a recreation club are also planned to be constructed, Agnihotri said.

There would be a separate Energy Surplus Centre for energy development and management.

He said the Chennai Centre of IIM-T would be formally inaugurated on November 21.
