For the first time, the Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has awarded three of its alumni the newly instituted Young Achiever Award as a recognition to the contribution in their respective fields.
The awardees included Aparna Labroo of Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Rajesh Gopinath, CFO, Tata Consultancy Services and Raghunandan G, co-founder of TaxiForSure.
"The awards have been given in three areas, corporate, entrepreneurship and academia/social service/public service. We want to make this an annual event starting from 2014-15 to our alumni under the age of 45," said Ashish Nanda, director, IIM-A.
The awardees would also interact with the new batch of IIM-A students to encourage with their success stories.
"This initiative is to acknowledge our students who have gone on to become leaders in their chosen field. The awards will also enhance alumni-student relation, create awareness among different batches of alumni, and inspire our students by highlighting the achievements of their seniors,” said Arvind Sahay, Dean, Alumni & External Relations, IIMA.
Meanwhile, two IIM-A alumni P P Gupta from the PGP 1974-batch and Nirmal Jain of PGP-1989 batch contributed Rs 8 crore towards infrastructure upgrade and new facilities at IIM-A.
"While Nirmal Jain, Chairman of the IIFL Holding Ltd has contributed Rs 3 crore for setting up a swimming pool, Gupta, Managing Director of Techno Electric & Engineering Co. Ltd contributed Rs 5 crore for upgradation of the IMDC auditorium to international standards and its maintenance for the next 25 years," said Sahay.
The alumni funding is mainly used for research & faculties, students scholarships and students welfare, and infrastructure.
