The Indian Institute of Technology(IIT), Mumbai chooses Khadi as their Convocation robe.
After Gujarat University, the authorities of premier IIT, Mumbai have decided to take to Khadi.
Called by Business Line for his reaction to this decision by the IIT, Mumbai, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, an alumni of the IIT, Mumbai welcomed the decision.
Appeal and popularity of Khadi has fascinated them to place an order for 3,500 “ uttarias ” or “ angavastrams ” made of honey comb towel cotton Khadi for use by students at the time of Institute’s convocation, said a Press Information Bureau release here on Monday. Prof Devang Khakhar, IIT, Mumbai Director, said, “Khadi is our national symbol and we have adopted Khadi to inculcate feeling of Nationalism in the minds of students.”
