On Tuesday, two-and-a-half months after Microsoft anointed Satya Nadella as its Chief Executive Officer, Nokia announced that Rajeev Suri would be its CEO. Both are alumni of the Manipal Institute of Technology, known as MIT in this part of the country.
While Nadella is a 1988 batch student from MIT’s Electronics and Communications department, Suri is a 1989 batch student of the same department.
MIT, which is now a part of Manipal University, was under Mangalore University when Nadella and Suri studied there.
A statement by Manipal University said: “Both went through the same grind and walked through the same corridors. Today, both are heading top companies of the world, clearly indicating that Manipal Institute of Technology is as good an engineering institute as any in the world.”
Vinod V Thomas, Director of the institute, said: “Two of the top Fortune 500 companies being led by MIT alumni is indeed a noteworthy achievement. These are not merely fortuitous events but the result of the multicultural ambience and professional outlook provided by MIT Manipal for the holistic development of its students. MIT congratulates Suri on his achievement and wishes him success in his new endeavour.”
