The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, on Thursday said efforts were on to take the fruits of research from the laboratories of CSIR closer to the industry and the common man.
He also wants the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research to take steps to make science popular among school children by opening their laboratories on certain days for visits by school children.
"Today's competitive world was killing the interest in science among young students. We need to reverse this. For science and technology play an important role in development," he said, while addressing scientists at the 70 years celebrations of the CSIR's Indian Institute of Chemical Technology here today.
The Union Minister for Urban Development and Housing, Venkaiah Naidu, also shared similar sentiment, stating that India has an untapped talent pool.
He saw nothing wrong in Indian engineers going abroad. "Yes you go (abroad) to learn and earn. But only thing is you should return to India and work for the country's development," he added.
