President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday expressed dismay over the recent reports about Indian educational institutions of higher learning not figuring in the list of top 200 rated universities of the world.
Speaking at the 58th convocation ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur – located nearly 150 kilometres from Kolkata – Mukherjee raised questions as to why even the premiere IITs did not feature in such a list.
“I feel it is necessary to share with you my sense of dismay on seeing, in the recent reports, that not a single Indian university or institute of higher learning including the premiere IITs figure in the list of 200 top rated universities of the world,” he told students at the convocation ceremony.
Accorrding to him, it is necessary to start now the urgent task of developing “scientific temperament” among the students.
