Saudi-based serial entrepreneur Ravi Pillai is getting his Australian subsidiary with a presence in the education and training sector to set up shop in Kerala.

OGM Technical Institute, the company owned by Pillai’s RP Group of Companies and based in Australia, will launch operations from Kollam near here on April 14.

WAUGH AMBASSADOR

Australian cricketer and ex-captain Steve Waugh, who is the brand ambassador of OGM Technical Institute, will be present on the occasion.

Ravi Pillai is also managing director of the Nasser S. Al-Hajri Corporation (NSH), which is one of the largest construction contract companies in West Asia.

NSH has set up two companies in Australia. The first is the NaSAH Australia Pty Ltd, which provides industrial service for LNG and mining projects in Australia.

OGM Technical Institute Pty Ltd is the other, which will work jointly with recognised Australian technical and further education institutions (TAFE).

TRAINING WORKERS

Pillai said here that OGM worked in close collaboration with the Centre Institute of Technology of Australia to train workers in the mining, LNG and oil and gas sectors.

It intends to prepare large numbers of workers here to take up job opportunities being thrown up in mineral-rich Australia, West Asia and African countries.

Another major job giver is the shale gas sector in the US and Canada, which is about to open up in huge numbers. OGM planned to introduce youngsters here to latest equipment and technologies to ensure that ‘they did not miss the bus.’

TRAINING MODULE

OGM will select qualified people in the respective trades with adequate experience and put them under training for four to six months under the Central Institute of Technology, Australia.

The training module comprises of spoken English; planning and project control; conveyor vulcanising/maintenance; advanced welding in gas/arc/tig; pipe fitters/millwright fitters; rigging/scaffolding; safety/environment; electronics/instrumentation; and drilling.

Those who successfully complete the training can in turn become trainers as per the scheme of the programme.

DEARTH OF SKILL

There are any numbers of job opportunities available in the market but there is a serious dearth of skilled hands. Industrial sectors across the globe are looking for skilled hands.

This is the backdrop for the initiative of RP Goup of Companies in Kerala. The aim is to train, assess, certify and provide skilled workers to ensure availability of superior skilled labour workforce to deliver projects.

Apart from Kerala, OGM will open TAFE training centres in Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh, Delhi and Mumbai.
