The Manipal-based T.A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) conducted an ‘Information Technology Summit’ at Manipal recently.
A press release here stated that experts from private sector and the government shared their knowledge and experience with students of TAPMI on the occasion.
Vidyashankar, Principal Secretary, Karnataka Department of Industry and Commerce, spoke on the impact of information technology (IT) in governance.
Taking the example of various e-governance initiatives, he described how they have been a mixed bag in terms of success and failure. He said the Indian Government has a massive need for the implementation of IT in order to increase transparency and improve efficiency.
Alex Varghese, Country Head, UST Global, said that India, which was initially viewed as centre for cost arbitrage, has metamorphosed into a mature service provider for the world.
He also talked about the accompanying challenges in this transformation such as attrition, inflation, immigration policies and talent crunch and how the industry can effectively combat them.
He stressed the importance of building businesses with the foundation of value systems like humanity, humility and integrity.
Other experts such as Srini Govindaraju, senior vice-president, Lister Tech, Chennai; Pratham Hegde, vice-president, Genpact; and Poornima Shenoy, chief executive officer of Latitude Edutech Consulting Pvt Ltd, participated in the summit, the release added.
