DTH player Tata Sky introduced an educational service, Tata Sky Classroom, for its 17 million subscribers across the country.

The service will provide audio-visual learning to children of class 5 to class 8 with the NCERT syllabus.

“We are launching this service in Maths and Science subjects. The service will be available free-of-cost till June 20 to all Tata Sky subscribers. Later it will be available at ₹99 per month in two languages English and Hindi,” informed Malay Dixit, chief communications officer, Tata Sky.

The content is developed by Tata ClassEdge, a part of Tata Interactive Systems, which aims to cover 10 million students annually by 2025.

“The content is used by 1,300 schools across India. Currently, in the overall publications industry we see about 35 per cent digitisation. But in educational publications, the quantum of digitisation is merely 3 per cent. There is a huge requirement of providing educational content through digital sources,” said Rajesh Khandagale, Chief Commercial Officer - India Schools Business, Tata Interactive Systems.

Tata Sky looks to generate new business from hinterland with the new offering.
