Online bus ticketing player Ticketgoose has teamed up with TiE Chennai to launch 'Tycoon Express’, a student entrepreneur initiative, in 20 colleges in Chennai and Bangalore and will move to other metros by end 2013.

The Chennai-based Ticketgoose.com will launch the initiative as a part of its Young Entrepreneur Development Programme. This initiative, in collaboration with TiE Chennai Chapter, is to support the critical growth factors of the Indian economy, entrepreneurship and innovation.

With India poised to become the youngest nation in the world by 2020, there is a need to create 14 crore jobs over the next decade. This scenario would require creation of a vibrant entrepreneurial eco-system to generate wealth, employment and economic growth.

High-growth ventures

It is estimated that there could be 2,500 successful high-growth ventures by 2022 that could generate revenues of over Rs 10 lakh crore per annum.

About 120 students will be trained during the six-month programme, wherein three students will be chosen from every selected college. The programme’s practical intensive module will help empower the students, and will also nurture them in transferring their learning among their peers.

‘Business Plan Competition’

The training programme will also include a ‘Business Plan Competition’ that will enable the participating students to gain practical insights from industry experts on the fundamentals of setting up their own venture.

Commenting on the new initiative, Arun Athiappan, Founder and CEO, Ticketgoose.com, said: “The current eco-system is slowly contributing to the change in the mindset of parents who earlier wanted their children only to study and secure a fabulous job. Besides, many successful young entrepreneurs are role models and are inspiring the young to put their ideas into action and make that a profitable business. These youngsters, especially students, are in need of a learning environment to make them successful entrepreneurs.’’'

Vishy Viswanathan, Executive Director, TiE Chennai Chapter, said: “There is an urgent need to catch them young while they are doing their undergraduate programme.’’

TiE Chennai is actively focused on inspiring, educating and mentoring entrepreneurs in Chennai.

Entrepreneurship

The advantage of entrepreneurship is not just job or income creation, it enhances productivity improvement, innovation, better standards of living, improvement in health and education and overall human development. Some of the promising sectors for successful entrepreneurship include, manufacturing, healthcare infrastructure and education services.

Interested applicants can send their resume to  tycoon@ticketgoose.com. Based on their interest, social media presence and the profile, the students will be shortlisted.
