The Tamil Nadu Government has announced plans to set up soft skill centres and incubation and technology transfer centres in universities and colleges to enhance skills and entrepreneurship among students.

The Government has earmarked Rs 1.35 crore to set up the soft skill centres in colleges, according to an official press release.

The objective is to enhance the employability of students. The soft skill centres are to come up in 30 colleges under five universities including Madras University, Thiruvalluvar University, Madurai Kamaraj University, Bharathidasan University and Bharathiar University.

Incubation and technology transfer centres will be set up in nine universities at a cost of Rs 29.88 lakh each. The centres are to come up in Madras University, Alagappa University, Thiruvalluvar University, Periyar University, Mother Theresa Women’s University, Bharathiar University, Madurai Kamaraj University and Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.

These centres will encourage entrepreneurship development among students, help upgrade IT skills and support commercialisation of concepts developed by students.

The academic institutions will also set up societies for college - village interaction for technology transfer, the release said.
