The alleged suicide of V. Rohit, a research scholar of the University of Hyderabad (UoH), is snowballing into a major controversy even as a case has been filed on Minister of State B Dattatreya, UoH Vice-Chancellor P Apparao, and two others.
According to Gachibowli police, the case was registered on the complaint of a students’ leader, Prashant.
The situation in the university campus has remained tense since this morning when students resisted attempts by cops to shift the body for post-mortem. Police, however, resorted to a lathi charge and shifted the body to Osmania General Hospital.
Rohit, a Dalit research scholar, had allegedly hanged himself in a hostel room in the new research scholars’ hostel in campus on Sunday.
He was one of five students of the Ambedkar Students’ Association who were expelled from the hostel a couple of weeks ago following their alleged involvement in a scuffle during a protest organised by ASA against ABVP’s attack on the screening of a documentary, Muzzafarnagar Baqi Hai , at Delhi University.
