Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has partnered IBM to design a new IT syllabi for students.
As part of this initiative, VIT and IBM will design advanced IT concepts around “big data’’ and cloud computing for B.Tech students.
The partnership will provide the technical know-how from IBM and make the syllabi more tuned to real-world problems and solutions, thus ensuring that graduates from VIT are employment ready, according to officials.
The range of courses being offered makes this a first-of-its-kind partnership between IBM and VIT in South India.
These courses will imbibe theoretical knowledge coupled with broad-based industry alignment, interaction, talent discoverability as well as professional practice.
Organisations across the world are operating in an increasingly complex environment and are taking to ‘Smarter Computing’ — which involves integration of “big data’’ and managing cloud computing services, say IBM officials.
Chancellor G. Viswanathan said: “With this initiative, the students will be equipped to adapt to these changing dynamics in the industry, drive technology and business innovation. IBM will help in bringing in experts to design and deliver a completely new set of courses that meet the evolving needs of the industry.’’
This joint initiative by IBM and VIT will augment finishing school efforts of the industry by preparing them better for future employability.
The availability of job-ready graduates will also help in filling the gap within the IT industry, where fresh graduates take long unproductive time to get deployed on customer sites or projects, according to IBM officials.
“Today, there is a greater demand for skilled technology professionals and this partnership with VIT will help students equip themselves with the latest technologies for tomorrow,” said Alok Ohrie, Vice-President, Systems & Technology Group, IBM India South Asia.
