XLRI achieves 100% summer internship placements

XLRI - Xavier School of Management has achieved 100 per cent summer internship placements for the batch of 2014-16. Some 105 participating companies made 385 offers to 365 students.

The highest stipend offered was Rs 1.5 lakh a month. The average stipend for the entire batch was at Rs 55,000 a month. Top recruiters on campus in terms of numbers were Altisource (12), Vodafone (10), HUL (9), ITC (9), Microsoft (9), ABG (8), Samsung R&D Institute (8) and Wipro (8).

'Parivartan'

In association with social sector organisations, XLRI has launched this year a parallel placement process called ‘Parivartan’. According to E Abraham, Director of XLRI, “the aim of this initiative is to show our solidarity towards social causes where students can get summer internship opportunities to work with non-government organisations and not-for-profit organisations.''

Among such organisations which offered internship this time around were Pratham, Tata Trust, Azim Premji Foundation, Bandhan Microfinance, Ashoka Foundation and E-Vidyaloka. Two students were placed with the Tata Trust.

Sales and marketing contributed the largest share of offers at 47 per cent, followed by finance (26 per cent), consulting (11 per cent), general management (9 per cent) and operations and programme management (7 per cent).

Our Delhi bureau adds: The flagship Business Management programme at XLRI witnessed a diverse split of internship opportunities, with 47 per cent of the batch getting internships in the sales and marketing domains. About 26 per cent of the batch was recruited for internships in the finance sector, while 11 per cent and 9 per cent of the batch receieved offers from the consulting and general management sectors respectively. The remaining 7 per cent of the batch will intern in the Operations and Programme Management domain.

Top recruiters in the BFSI domain included World Bank, Citibank, HSBC, Standard Chartered, BNP Paribas and DBS, which offered internships in the markets, corporate banking, retail and HR domains. Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase and Nomura offered investment banking and equity research roles.

HUL and ITC offered nine internships, followed by Kellogg’s and Mondelez with seven internship offers each. Some of the top FMCG summer recruiters include Akzo Nobel, Asian Paints, Castrol, Coca-Cola, Colgate Palmolive, GSK CH, Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages, Johnson & Johnson Consumer, and Pepsi.

The Boston Consulting Group offered seven internship offers this year with the likes of PwC, Capgemini, Cognizant, Deloitte, EY, and KPMG offering around 4 internships each.

International Internships

There has been a steep rise in international internship offers. Companies such as M.H AlShaya, ABG, Altisource, HUL, Kellogg’s, Nomura, Pepsi, Godrej and European hedge fund Carlyle have offered multiple international internships for students this year.
