J P Morgan Chase offered a student of XLRI Rs 2.5 lakh-a-month stipend for summer internship. J P Morgan Chase, for the first time opened its global markets role for the intending students of Jamshedpur located XLRI.

This is the highest stipend offered for industry exposure to a student from the first-year batch of 360 students. The selected student would be trained for a global strategic role, XLRI told Business Line. Last year, the highest stipend offered for summer internship form XLRI was Rs. 1.5 lakh per month.

Offers from 92 companies this time had a median stipend offer of Rs 65,000 a month, XLRI said in a release. “All students received paid internship”, XLRI said.

Banking and financial services and insurance sector attracted majority of the students for internship. Goldman Sachs offered roles in investment banking. Barclays and Edelweiss were new recruiters in BFSI domain.

Among the other companies, which picked up XLRI students for internship, was European hedge fund Carlyle. “Avendus capital continued to open its doors for XLRI students for its front end PE syndication and M&A advisory roles”, XLRI added.

Citibank was the largest taker of interns this year from XLRI in the BFSI segment. HSBC, Standard Chartered, BNP Paribas and DBS opened up multiple roles including those for markets, corporate banking, retail and human resources. Axis Bank, ICICI and Yes Bank were also among internship providers.

Accenture picked up highest number of interns at 13, followed by Microsoft (12), Hindustan Unilever (11), Flipkart (10), ABG (9), Citibank (9), Snapdeal (9), and Vodafone (9).

Two students each got internship in Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Tata Trust and E-Vdiyaloka in the social sector.

Apart from BFSI, two other sectors FMCG and consulting also were among the top intern pickers. HUL, ABG and Godrej were among many, which opened international roles for the interns. Human Resources management students preferred FMCG. Companies, such as Coca Cola, GSK, Jhonson & Jhonson, Castrol, Britannia, Akzo Nobel Asian Paints, ITC, Nestle, PepsiCo, Reckitt Benckiser and Kellogs in these sectors also attracted students from marketing and supply chain management streams.
