T.Nagar, the shopping hub of Chennai, maintained an eerie silence, as the State mourned Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s demise on December 5, 2016.

All the shops in Usman Road, Pondy Bazaar and Ranganathan street were closed as a mark of respect.

Few police vehicles were stationed near Ranganathan street and Usman road to monitor the situation in the area.

These are the roads, where you generally had to manoeuvre around the people and autos that wait outside the shops. But today, apart from few two-wheelers and cars, the road was deserted and there were no auto-rickshaws in sight.
