The Congress suffered huge setbacks in the five States where results of the Assembly elections are being announced on Thursday.
It lost Assam to the BJP for huge margins, while the Left Front trounced the Congress-led UDF in Kerala. In Tamil Nadu, its alliance with the DMK did not make any major impact and the AIADMK is all set to retain the government. In West Bengal too, the party's experiment to form an alliance with the Left was rejected by the people. The Trinamool Congress is winning the State by huge margins.
In West Bengal, out of the 294 seats, trends were available for all 294 seats. The ruling Trinamool Congress was leading in 211 seats and the Left-Congress alliance was leading in just 71 seats. The BJP alliance was leading in ten seats.
In Tamil Nadu, AIADMK having a clear edge. The party was leading in 130 seats while the DMK alliance has made a mark in 83 seats. The third front in the state was leading in just two seats. The NDA was leading in five seats.
In Assam, the BJP is set to win with a good number of seats. The BJP-AGP alliance was leading in 78 seats. Congress leading in 28 and the AUDF was leading in 11 seats.
In Kerala, the Left Front is set to come back to power with about 90 seats. The Congress-led UDF was leading in 48 seats while the BJP, which is yet to open an account, was leading in one seat.
In Puduchery, the Congress was leading in 9 seats while the ruling NRC was leading in 11 seats.
