Allegations of irregularities in elections have taken a serious turn in Tripura.
According to available reports in local vernacular media, quoting Election Commission data, the total votes polled in a booth in Tripura West Constituency, which went to the polls on April 11, was more than the registered voters in the booth.
According to records 962 votes were polled at booth no five, under Golaghati assembly segment of Tripura West Lok Sabha constituency that has 925 voters on the electoral rolls.
Tripura is witnessing a four corner poll this year, with the ruling BJP suffering from infighting. BJP's coalition partner IPFT, representing 30 per cent of the tribal population, has fielded candidates in both Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.
Allegations of booth capturing were rife, particularly against the BJP, in the first phase of polling. Due to the prevailing situation, the Election Commission has rescheduled polling in Tripura East from April 18 to April 23.
