Abhijeet Ferrotech Limited, of the Abhijeet group, in the Atchyuthapuram special economic zone in Visakhapatnam district, has been forced to stop production as power supply has been cut, owing to the the company’s inability to pay the power bills for two months.
According to sources in the Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited, the ferro-alloys unit could not clear power bills amounting to ₹28 crores and power has been cut since March 1.
The sources said the company representatives had met the APEPDCL authorities on Wednesday to sort out the issue and they were asked to pay ₹16.5 crores immediately and the rest by April 25 along with the March bill. The unit would be reconnected after the payment of ₹16.5 crores.
A company representative said efforts were being made to get the power connection restored and resume production.
The unit suffered badly in the Hudhud cyclone which hit the city and district in October 2014 and the power-intensive unit was facing difficulties since then. It employs nearly 1,000 workers.
