Sri Lankan naval personnel allegedly attacked five fishermen from here when they were fishing near Katchatheevu today, official sources said.
The navy personnel, who came in five boats, fired four rounds in the air and threatened a group of fishermen from here not to fish in the area. They also attacked five fishermen of a boat with steel rods, T Sasuraja, President, Rameswaram Fishermen Association, said.
The navy men also destroyed some of the fishing nets, he said.
Kani and Kalaignaanam sustained severe injuries in the attack and were admitted to hospital, he said.
