The Congress Working Committee is to meet in Wardha, Maharashtra, to mark the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary celebrations. The party will launch its year-long door-to-door campaign, Lok Samparh Abhigyan. The party will send out a message against the "atmosphere of fear, hate and violence". Apart from a peace march and a prayer meet, Congress president Rahul Gandhi will also address a public meeting.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will launch the Mukhyamantri Yuva Nestham scheme. The objective of the scheme is to provide financial security to educated and unemployed individuals until they find a job. Towards this, the Chief Minister will give away the monthly unemployment allowance of Rs 1,000 to the eligible jobless youth. The scheme was one of the promises made by Telugu Desam Party in its election manifesto in 2014.

Starting today, demat is a must for shares of unlisted public companies. As on December 20, 2017, there were 66,000 plus unlisted public companies. The move is expected to act as a safeguard against illegal dealings involving unlisted companies. Shares in the demat form will help in having a transparent record of shareholding in companies amid rising concerns over beneficial ownership of entities.

Anna Hazare will launch a hunger strike for the appointment of anti-corruption ombudsman. He has said the Prime Minister has not fulfilled the “written assurances” given to him when he ended his recent hunger strike on the issue at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan in March. In a letter to the Prime Minister last week, Hazare said that in the last four years the government has dilly-dallied over the appointment of Lokpal and Lokayukta.

A mega monument to world peace will open in Pune. An initiative of the MIT World Peace University, it has been built without a professional architect's design and the structure is the biggest pillar-less dome in the world. The dome houses 54 massive bronze statues of some of the greatest leaders of humanity. Vice—President M. Venkaiah Naidu will dedicate the monument to mankind. MIT World Peace University will kick off a four—day World Parliament with over 100 speakers and thousands of delegates today.
