Five things to watch out for this weekend

Thenext round of negotiations for the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) would be held in Australia from Sunday. The RCEP is a mega trade deal which aims to cover goods, services, investments, economic and technical cooperation, competition and intellectual property rights.

The government is set to roll out the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna-Gramin — rural housing programme — on Sunday after drawing up a list of beneficiaries based on the Socio Economic and Caste Census 2011 data. The programme was earlier called the Indira Awas Yojna.

The Aam Aadmi Party will kick off on Saturday its ‘Punjab Dialogue’ or ‘Bolda Punjab’ campaign to cover various segments of society to formulate a policy and shape its manifesto for the assembly polls in 2017.

Security measures have been intensified in Manipur ahead of President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to the state on Saturday. He will address a state level function of Khongjom Day, the last war of Manipur’s independence at Khongjom War Memorial complex at Kheba Hill in Thoubal district. Mukherjee will also inaugurate a monument-cum-tourist centre at the complex. The historic Khongjom War was fought by the warriors of the then princely state against the British Army at Kheba Hill in Thoubal district on April 23, 1891.

DMK president M Karunanidhi, who will contest assembly elections in Tamil Nadu for a record 13th time, will start his campaign on Saturday. Karunanidhi, 93, will file his nomination on April 25 in Tiruvarur assembly constituency. Elections in Tamil Nadu are due on May 16. The former chief minister is to address more than 30 public rallies, either from his campaign van or from the dais.
