Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is likely to meet President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President, Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday. The meetings would be courtesy calls. The new Kerala CM would also be meeting Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.
Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi will hit the streets of the national Capital on Saturday against the AAP dispensation in Delhi and the BJP government at the Centre over power cuts and water shortage in the city. He would lead a rally from Raj Ghat to the Delhi Secretariat, the administrative headquarters of the city government, around 6:30 pm.
The University of Delhi will start the online registration process for admission to undergraduate courses from Saturday. The last date to fill forms is June 16. Students seeking admission in the university have to visit the official website www.du.ac.in and fill the admission form. St Stephen’s College will also start the online application process for admission to its 10 undergraduate courses from Saturday even as Delhi University has asked it and Jesus and Mary to follow the centralised registration plan.
Amitabh Bachchan will take the stage at India Gate on Saturday to host a segment on the girl child, which will be part of a larger Government organised programme to mark two years at the Centre. The event, titled Zara Muskura Do (Smile Please), will have several performances and programmes highlighting its "achievements". The show will be telecast across the country on Doordarshan. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Digital India and Rural Electrification will be among the Central programmes highlighted during the show.
The first trial run of the Spanish-built Talgo train will be held on the Bareilly-Moradabad rail route in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. The trial will be conducted at a maximum speed of 115 km per hour for oscillation test. The next trials of the Talgo trains, which are capable of hitting a maximum speed of 200 km per hour, will be conducted on the Mathura-Palwal corridor and the Delhi-Mumbai corridor. Besides reducing travel time, Talgo's lighter trains consume 30 per cent less energy which will help the Railways reduce their power bill.
