The passage of Goods and Services Tax Bill will be the Government’s top priority during the winter session of Parliament that begins on Thursday. Meanwhile the Opposition parties are closing ranks to target the Government on several issues, including ‘intolerance’.
A special session of Parliament will be held today to mark Constitution Day. Lawmakers will pay tribute to B R Ambedkar, one of the key framers of the Constitution, during the session. Officials have been directed to read out the preamble of the Constitution on the occassion.
Central Government officials will visit Tamil Nadu today to make a first-hand assessment of the damage caused by the floods. A team will also be sent to Andhra Pradesh as soon as its memorandum is received. Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had sent a letter detailing the damage caused by the floods.
Sovereign gold bonds will be issued by the government from Thursday, offering an annual interest rate of 2.75 per cent to domestic investors. The bonds will be sold through banks and designated post offices and will be part of the Centre's market-borrowing programme.
