The Apollo Clinic is hosting a four-day diabetes exhibition and awareness programme from November 14-17, here highlighting various approaches to address the problem.
This programme was inaugurated by cine star Srihari and S. Aleem Basha, Zonal Commissioner, (West Zone), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
Srihari said, “We have the largest youth population in the world and they falling victim to diabetes is not a good sign for our country’s future. This initiative of Apollo Clinic will help in educating the youth in taking precautions and also in identifying this dreadful ailment early, thereby modifying their lifestyle and prevent further damage.”
According to Diabetologist Sanjoy Paul, “Hyderabad has already earned the ignominy of being called the diabetic capital of India. The matter is of grave concern as there is rapid rise in the number of young type-2 diabetics in the city.”
India itself is seeing a 33 per cent year-on-year increase in Type-2 diabetics. It is vital to create awareness that diabetes is not a disease, but a disorder and can be controlled by proper life-style management, he added.
