The weather over North Coastal Tamil Nadu has settled into a pattern that is synonymous with normal monsoon conditions though isolated thundershowers are possible in parts of the region.
Satellite pictures on Wednesday morning show a smattering of clouds hovering in the region and heavier ones towards South Coastal Tamil Nadu.
Fresh clouding south of the Andaman Sea (around Banda Aceh, Sumatra) have aroused interest in terms of likely implications for the Tamil Nadu coast in due course.
The US Climate Prediction Centre sees prospects for a fresh round of rain over north Tamil Nadu during the week beginning December 15.
This morning the semi-permanent trough that has been instrumental for the record rainfall over Tamil Nadu during the last few weeks, lies extended from Sri Lanka to South-West Bay of Bengal off north Tamil Nadu.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has been recorded over most places of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the 24 hours ending in the morning.
West coast rain
It also rained over parts of the West Coast as the trough in the Arabian Sea extended its reach into South Gujarat.
An India Met Department outlook has maintained a watch for isolated heavy rainfall over coastal Tamil Nadu (especially in the South), South Kerala, and Lakshadweep today and tomorrow.
Thundershowers may also break out over parts of the North Peninsula (Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Telangana and Vidarbha) due to the interaction of monsoon easterlies with the westerlies from a western disturbance dipping low from Northwest India.
