Irani retains textiles Ministry, gains charge of woman & child development

BJP leader Smriti Irani retained charge of the Textiles Ministry and was also assigned the Ministry of Woman and Child Development in the second stint of the BJP government.

Irani, who defeated Rahul Gandhi in the Amethi Lok Sabha seat, is yet to officially take charge of her Ministries.

As Textiles Minister, Irani will get the opportunity to pursue the long-pending promise of announcing a Textiles Policy that would boost exports and create more employment. The Minister will also need to work out alternatives to the export subsidy schemes and replace them with the ones compliant with World Trade Organisation (WTO) norms.

As Minister for Women and Child Development, Irani has to ensure the passage of Anti-Trafficking Bill in the Rajya Sabha
