Girish Sahni has assumed charge as the next Director-General of the Council for Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) and Secretary, Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, Ministry of Science & Technology, with effect from August 24.
Sahni, a PhD from Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, had earlier been the Director, CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology (CSIR-IMTECH), Chandigarh, and has specialisation in protein engineering, molecular biology, and biotechnology, an official release said.
The post of DG, CSIR had been lying vacant since the retirement of Samir Brahmachari in December 2014.
