Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar is planning to promote the State as a high profile wedding destination along with event and wellness-medical tourism promotion in a big way, both internationally and domestically.
In an informal chat with editors of Goan dailies and electronic news channels and senior journalists, Parsekar said that Goa has manifested that potential and already a large number of high-end weddings have been taking place in Goa’s hospitality sector.
He pointed out that already a permanent venue of International Film Festival of India, Goa is fast turning into an entertainment and event hub.
Destination weddings are an emerging trend, say tourism industry sources.
The lush greens, open spaces and the tranquility accompanied by a heightened sense of privacy make for a perfect setting to have the wedding families look for.
The Chief Minister further said that Goa was gearing up for 24x7 water supply to the entire State by 2020 and other infrastructure like garbage collection has been addressed in a systematic way so that “Goa brand” retains its USP across the globe.
Replying to questions about Goa’s infrastructure development and job-related growth, the Chief Minister touched the issue of entrepreneurship saying the State would be also promoted as the “capital of start-ups” through state-owned financial corporation – EDC Ltd – on a large-scale.
On the Information Technology front, while admitting that Goa missed the bus, Parsekar said that the proposed Chimbel IT Park in north Goa, which has been initiated with 50 hectares of land, would be expanded further by allotting 50 ha more.
