The Gujarat government on Saturday opened helpline for those who are trapped in Nepal and nearby regions because of the devastating earthquake that wreaked havoc in Nepal's capital Kathmandu.
Several people are feared trapped under the debris of buildings that included several famous tourist spots. The tremors were felt in most parts of India including Ahmedabad, Vadodara, while the epicentre was closer to Kathmandu.
The Gujarat government has opened control room numbers for tourists stranded in Nepal. The current season being the vacation period, a large number of tourists from the State were on a visit to Nepal.
The state authority issued helpline numbers at the control room based in Gandhinagar as : 079-23251900/902/907/908/914/918. Also, the chief minister, Anandiben Patel, appealed to people, through her twitter handle, to spread the message and help the Government get information on their possible location and contact details in Nepal.
Gujarat Chief Minister in her twitter message said, “Massive earthquake in Nepal is saddening. Having witnessed the destruction an earthquake can cause, I hope & pray for minimum loss of lives!”
"Tremors have been felt in parts of Guj as well. While the situation is closely monitored, I appeal people to stay calm and not to panic..," the chief minister tweeted.
