Hindustan Construction Company Ltd (HCC) has announced its joint venture with Bangladesh-based MAX Group and bagged a $110- million contract for civil works at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant being constructed by Russia’s Rosatom in Bangladesh.
The ₹737 crore contract for civil works of Turbine Island for Unit 1 of Rooppur NPP, which is under construction since November 2017, was awarded by Russia’s State Nuclear Company, JSC Atomstroyexport, HCC said in a statement. HCC’s share in the JV is 40 per cent which translates to a win of ₹295 crore, it added.
The Rooppur NPP is located 160 km away from Dhaka on the eastern bank of the Ganges, Pabna District. The project will facilitate two VVER reactors of 1,200 MW each. The project commissioning, according to Rosatom, is scheduled for 2022 and 2023. While Rosatom Corporation provides the NPP to Bangladesh on a turnkey basis, it attracts locals as well as Indian suppliers for non-critical works, including civil construction and supporting infrastructure. Currently, there are nearly 150 tenders for various works at Rooppur plant published on Rosatom’s e-tendering platform.
“HCC has become the first Indian company to participate in the international civil nuclear market,” Arjun Dhawan, Director and Group CEO, said, commenting on the development. According to him, HCC will be looking at expanding its infrastructure footprint in Bangladesh.
