Heavy rains lashed the national capital today bringing with it the perennial problem of water-logging which caused heavy traffic jams on various arterial roads.
Massive traffic jams due to water-logging were reported in several areas such as Dhaula Kuan, Badarpur-Mahipalpur road, ITO, South Extension, Janakpuri, Laxmi Nagar, Azadpur, Bhawal and Okhla.
The MeT department has predicted thundershowers and light rains in the national capital for the next 24 hours.
Office-goers were the most affected as they made through their way to their destinations through traffic snarls across the city.
“I had to wait for an hour for the auto from ITO and when I got one, he charged me way above the normal price,” said Anushka, an air hostess.
The minimum temperature this morning in the city was recorded at 26.7 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s 23 degrees.
Rain gauges had received 123 mm of rains on Saturday which had brought the city to a grinding halt. A spell of three-and-a-half-hour heavy rains on Saturday had caused total chaos in the city exposing civic bodies’ lack of preparedness to address the problem of water-logging.
While PWD had blamed MCD for flooding of streets, the civic body had held PWD responsible for the same.
