Of the 1,000 passengers stranded at the Chennai airport this morning, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has managed to get some people out by deploying six buses, R.K Srivastava, Chairman, AAI, said on Wednesday.
“We hope to evacuate all passengers stranded at the Chennai terminal building by 4 pm today,” he said.
On the cancelled flights, Srivastava said that between 8 pm on Tuesday and 12.30 pm on Wednesday, as many as 66 arrivals and 53 departures have been cancelled.
“The situation at the Chennai airport will be reviewed at 6 am tomorrow (Thursday) to take a call on when operations should resume,” he said.
All other airports in Tamil Nadu are operational.
