Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is setting up 2G and 3G sites in 64 of the Hyderabad Metro Rail stations to provide mobile connectivity along the corridor.

“We have already commissioned sites in 26 stations. The remaining will be covered as and when the Metro expands its services,” V Sundar, Chief General Manager of BSNL (Telangana Telecom circle), said.

4G services

The city, however, will have to wait one more year for BSNL’s 4G services. The BSNL will cover the whole of Telangana barring Hyderabad by the year-end with a budget of ₹123 crore. “We will set up 409 towers to offer 4G services in rest of Telangana,” he said.

4G services in Hyderabad will launched during March-August next year at a cost of ₹300 crore. Hyderabad will require about 2,000 towers.

Lower revenues

The combined circle of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh has posted lower revenues in 2017-18 at ₹2,115 crore as against ₹2,400 crore in 2016-17. Though there are two different circles for the two new States, the revenue account is not bifurcated yet.

Though the BSNL has seen a growth in enterprise business, there is a significant revenue drop from the landline segment. Enhanced talk-time offers at lower rates too seem to have contributed for the lower revenues.

Channel partners

The firm has increased commission to channel partners to 6 per cent from 4.66 per cent. Besides, an additional 4 per cent commission is offered on top-up plans in the range of ₹100 to ₹399 and six per cent additional commission on topups of ₹400 and above.

“We have a market share of 11.83 per cent in the two States at the end of May 31, 2018, as against 11.63 per cent in March, 2018,” he said.
