Burra Venkatesham, Principal Secretary, Tourism, Telangana, on Thursday announced a ₹125-crore exhibition-cum-convention centre that can accommodate 8,000 persons that come up at Hitex by the end of 2018.

Speaking at the Annual International Conclave of the Indian Exhibition Industry here, he said the new centre will be pillar-less and unique.

KV Nagendra Prasad, COO of Hitex, said it is the first time in India that both exhibition and convention facilities are combined in a single hall. It will become an iconic structure in the country.

HITEX will expand further its infrastructure next year, he added.

Addressing the gathering, LC Goyal, CMD of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), said the government is keen that the exhibition industry becomes a significant player in the Indian growth story.

The two-day annual event is organised by the Indian Exhibition Industry Association (IEIA), a 180-members strong apex body of exhibition organisers in India.

The IEIA signed and exchanged agreements with six international professional bodies.
